The Red Goddess

The goddess is red with the blood of life.

Part of a series of sculptures inspired by stone age Venus figures.

Venus figures, such as the famous Venus of Willendorf, are defined by their stylized, exaggerated features meant to draw attention to the breast, buttocks, and vulva. Traditionally they were made of stone, bone/ivory, or clay. We can only speculate at their purpose, whether they were sympathetic magic talismans to encourage pregnancy or representations of a mother goddess.
